President Bola Tinubu has approved a new salary structure for personnel of the Nigerian Armed Forces, raising their salaries by between 30 and 80 per cent in what the Presidency described as a major boost to troop welfare.
The new salary package, which takes effect from September 1, 2026, will benefit about 250,000 officers and men of the Armed Forces, according to a statement issued on Tuesday by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
Under the approved structure, junior military personnel will receive the highest salary adjustment of up to 80 per cent, while senior officers will enjoy increases ranging from 30 to 50 per cent.
The Presidency said the review forms part of the Federal Government’s efforts to improve the welfare of military personnel engaged in ongoing security operations across the country.
President Tinubu said the administration remained committed to supporting members of the Armed Forces in recognition of their sacrifices in protecting the nation.
“The men and women who help to keep us safe in our homes must be supported and appreciated in the course of their duties to our nation,” the President said.
He also reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to strengthening the operational capacity of the Armed Forces through improved welfare, modern weapons and advanced technological equipment needed to confront evolving security challenges.
The salary review comes as the Federal Government continues efforts to improve the welfare and operational effectiveness of security agencies in response to persistent security threats across different parts of the country.
