President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the allocation of plots of land in Abuja to Nigeria’s newly appointed ambassadors and high commissioners-designate, in a move aimed at strengthening diplomatic representation and improving the country’s international engagement framework.
April 29, 2026 — The directive was disclosed in Abuja by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, during a meeting with the envoys led by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The allocation is intended to provide residential and official accommodation support for diplomats when they return to Nigeria for consultations and state duties.
Wike explained that the initiative reflects President Tinubu’s broader foreign policy strategy, which places emphasis on economic diplomacy and investment attraction.
He urged the diplomats to actively project Nigeria positively abroad and strengthen confidence in the country as an investment destination.
The move has also been framed within efforts to reposition Abuja as a fully functional diplomatic capital. As Nigeria’s administrative centre, Abuja hosts foreign missions, government institutions, and international organisations, serving as the country’s political and diplomatic hub.
