Suspected terrorists have launched a deadly attack on Ayegunle Bunu community in Kabba-Bunu Local Government Area of Kogi State, killing one person and abducting more than 30 others, including passengers travelling in a commercial bus.
According to reports, the attackers stormed the community in the early hours of Monday, June 1, operating for several minutes before escaping with their victims. One resident was reportedly killed during the invasion, while another sustained injuries.
Among those kidnapped were two residents of the community, a man and a woman, as well as numerous passengers travelling through the area.
The commercial bus conveying the travellers was said to have been intercepted by the gunmen before the occupants were taken away to an unknown destination.
The incident has sparked fresh concerns over the security situation in Kogi State, particularly along routes connecting communities near the Kogi-Kwara border, where residents have repeatedly raised alarms over attacks and abductions.
Security agencies are yet to provide an official update on the attack or the efforts being made to rescue the victims.
