Team Nigeria has continued its impressive campaign at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland, producing a string of outstanding performances to emerge as one of the standout nations in the competition with multiple gold medals across weightlifting and para powerlifting events.
Nigeria’s medal surge was spearheaded by Rafiatu Folashade Lawal, who successfully defended her Commonwealth title and delivered the country’s sixth gold medal with a record-breaking performance in weightlifting.
Earlier, Esther Nworgu opened Nigeria’s gold medal account, while Folashade Oluwafemiayo shattered a world record on her way to another gold in para powerlifting.
The country’s dominance was further strengthened by additional gold-winning displays from its weightlifting contingent.
In addition to the gold medals, Team Nigeria has also secured silver medals, further boosting its position on the medals table as the Games progress.
The remarkable performances have reinforced Nigeria’s reputation as a powerhouse in weightlifting and para sports, with athletes consistently breaking records and outperforming their rivals.
Sports officials have praised the athletes for their discipline, resilience and determination, describing the medal haul as a testament to the country’s investment in sports development.
