Surge in APC Nomination Forms Signals Strength, Not Crisis — Okunomo

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress in Ondo State, Barrister Banji Okunomo, has dismissed concerns over internal divisions within the party, stating that the rising number of aspirants purchasing nomination forms reflects strength rather than crisis.

Okunomo, a former chairman of Ilaje Local Government, made this known in a statement issued on Friday, amid growing interest by party members seeking elective positions under the APC platform.

According to him, the surge in the collection of Expression of Interest and Nomination Forms by aspirants is a clear indication of the party’s vibrancy and electoral appeal in Ondo State.

He argued that the APC remains the most attractive political platform in the state, with many aspirants confident that securing the party’s ticket significantly boosts their chances of winning elections.

“The sheer number of aspirants underscores a shared confidence that the APC ticket is a winning ticket,” Okunomo stated, adding that such interest should be viewed as a healthy sign of democratic participation rather than a source of concern.

Addressing speculations about possible discontent within the party, he noted that the ongoing consensus-building process is dynamic and remains open until the primary elections are concluded.

Okunomo explained that it is normal in a democratic setting for multiple aspirants to express interest in the same position, emphasizing that disagreements and negotiations are part of the political process.

He further noted that while some aspirants may initially resist consensus arrangements, such positions often evolve as consultations continue among stakeholders.

“At the end of the process, only one candidate will emerge as the party’s flagbearer, and all members are expected to unite behind that candidate to secure victory for the APC,” he said.

The APC chieftain concluded that the current level of political activity within the party demonstrates its growing influence and readiness for future electoral contests in Ondo State.

He reaffirmed confidence in the party’s unity, describing the ongoing developments as a testament to its strong footing and continued dominance in the state’s political landscape.
