The Supreme Court has ordered the final forfeiture of properties linked to former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele, bringing an end to the legal battle over the assets.
In a unanimous judgment delivered on Friday, a five-member panel of the apex court, led by Justice Ibrahim Saulawa, allowed the appeal challenging the decision of the Court of Appeal, Lagos Division.
The Supreme Court consequently set aside the appellate court’s judgment, which had earlier nullified the forfeiture order issued by the Federal High Court in Lagos and directed a retrial of the case.
By restoring the decision of the trial court, the apex court affirmed the final forfeiture of the properties, effectively ending Emefiele’s challenge against the seizure of the assets.
The ruling marks the conclusion of one of the high-profile asset forfeiture cases arising from investigations involving the former CBN governor.
