“Sowore Is Not Your Problem, Leave Our Son Alone” — Apoi Monarch Appeals to Tinubu in Video

The Paramount Ruler of Apoi Kingdom in Ese-Odo Local Government Area of Ondo State, His Imperial Majesty Oba Professor Sunday Adejimola Amuseghan, Lawe II, the Kalasuwe of Apoi Kingdom, has appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to focus on insecurity and other pressing national challenges rather than targeting human rights activist and African Action Congress (AAC) Presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore.

In a video circulating on social media, the traditional ruler appealed to the President, insisting that Sowore should not be treated as the country’s major problem.

The monarch, popularly known as the Kalasuwe, reportedly described Sowore as their son and urged the Federal Government to redirect its attention towards addressing the security challenges affecting Nigerians.

His appeal comes amid renewed public attention surrounding Sowore following the reported physical attack on him and members of his team at a restaurant in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State, on Friday, October 30, 2026.

Sowore accused individuals he described as political thugs of attacking his team, while the Ekiti State Police Command initially described the incident as an altercation between the activist and some individuals.

The police subsequently announced the arrest of 11 suspects in connection with the incident and said investigations were ongoing to establish the circumstances surrounding the confrontation.

The Apoi monarch’s appeal has drawn attention to wider concerns about insecurity, freedom of expression and the protection of citizens, particularly those who openly criticise government policies.

Oba Amuseghan was installed as the Kalasuwe and Paramount Ruler of Apoi Land in 2018. In a June 2024 interview with The Punch, he said his traditional responsibilities included promoting unity among the nine principal communities under his authority and seeking government support for their development.

As reactions continue to emerge over the incident involving Sowore, the monarch’s message adds to calls for the government to prioritise public safety and address the concerns of Nigerians.
