Sowore Attacks Tinubu’s Economic Policies, Demands ₦500,000 Minimum Wage for Workers

Human rights activist and former presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, has launched a blistering criticism of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, describing the administration as “lazy” and “clueless” while calling for a ₦500,000 monthly minimum wage for Nigerian workers. Sowore argued that the current economic realities make existing wages inadequate for millions of citizens struggling with inflation, rising food prices, and declining purchasing power.

Speaking on Nigeria’s economic challenges, Sowore maintained that public servants, including teachers, healthcare workers, police officers, and other essential workers, deserve salaries that reflect the true cost of living.

He insisted that a living wage is necessary to restore dignity to workers and improve productivity across critical sectors of the economy.

The comments come amid growing national debate over workers’ welfare and the impact of economic reforms introduced by the Tinubu administration.

While government officials argue that recent reforms are laying the foundation for long-term economic recovery, critics contend that many Nigerians are experiencing worsening hardship and declining living standards.

Sowore’s proposal is likely to generate further discussion among labour unions, economists, and policymakers as Nigerians continue to seek solutions to the country’s deepening economic challenges ahead of the 2027 elections.
