Human rights activist and Publisher of Sahara Reporters, Omoyele Sowore, has alleged a cover-up over the death of a young Nigerian woman, claiming the incident occurred under troubling circumstances at the residence of the Minister of Works, Dave Umahi.
In a post shared on his verified social media page, Sowore criticised the Federal Government’s handling of the matter, alleging that there had been no accountability over the incident.
He also accused President Bola Tinubu of encouraging silence rather than demanding a thorough investigation.
“Imagine the kind of people leading Nigeria. A young Nigerian woman dies under deeply troubling circumstances in Dave Umahi’s home and instead of accountability, the response from President Bola Tinubu… is, ‘Don’t worry about it’,” Sowore wrote.
The activist further claimed that the alleged response reflected “the kind of code of silence associated with organised crime,” adding that efforts appeared to be focused on burying the truth rather than ensuring justice.
“It is as if the message is: go bury the truth, cover it up, and move on,” he stated.
Sowore called for accountability and transparency, insisting that the circumstances surrounding the woman’s death should be thoroughly investigated.
As of the time of filing this report, neither the Presidency nor the Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, had publicly responded to Sowore’s allegations. Likewise, no official statement had been issued by relevant authorities confirming the claims or providing details on the incident.
The allegations remain unverified, and no official findings have been released regarding the circumstances surrounding the reported death.
