A tragic domestic dispute in Ondo State has ended in the death of a 65-year-old man after he was allegedly assaulted by his biological son during a violent altercation in Oda Community, Akure South Local Government Area.
The Ondo State Police Command confirmed the arrest of Nsikak Kingsley, 38, over the alleged killing of his father, Adone Peter, an incident that has shocked residents and renewed concerns over rising cases of domestic violence within families. According to police authorities, the fatal confrontation occurred on May 28, 2026, when an argument between father and son reportedly escalated into physical violence.
The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, disclosed that preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect allegedly attacked his father during the dispute, inflicting severe injuries, particularly to the head. The victim was rushed to a medical facility for emergency treatment, but doctors later confirmed him dead despite efforts to save his life.
The incident was reportedly brought to the attention of law enforcement authorities by Daniel Moses, another son of the deceased and brother to the suspect. Acting on the complaint, police detectives launched an investigation, tracked down the suspect, and took him into custody.
Authorities said the remains of the deceased have been deposited in a mortuary for autopsy, while the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation. Police indicated that the suspect would be charged in court upon the conclusion of investigations.
Reacting to the incident, Ondo State Commissioner of Police Felix Ohagwu condemned the killing, describing it as unfortunate and unacceptable. He stressed that no disagreement, whether within a family or a community, should be allowed to degenerate into violence and loss of life.
The police boss also urged residents to embrace peaceful conflict resolution and promptly report threats or acts of violence to security agencies.
The incident has once again highlighted the dangers of unresolved family conflicts and the devastating consequences that can arise when disputes are settled through violence rather than dialogue.
Community leaders have called for greater emphasis on conflict management, counseling, and family support systems to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
While investigations continue, residents of Oda Community remain in shock over a dispute that ended with a son in police custody and a father buried in the mortuary.
