Anambra State Governor Prof. Chukwuma Soludo has revealed whom he plans to support in the 2027 Nigerian presidential election, declaring his backing for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re‑election bid and confirming that his party, the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), will not field a presidential candidate of its own. The position, reported on Saturday, March 21, 2026, signals a strategic political alignment as the nation moves closer to the general election scheduled for 16 January 2027.
Soludo said he has “no regrets” about supporting Tinubu and believes the president’s leadership merits continuity. He made the declaration publicly during a media chat in Awka, Anambra State, days after his inauguration for a second term, emphasising that APGA’s decision not to contest the presidency reflects a broader alliance with Tinubu’s progressive agenda.
The move is significant because it shows a smaller regional party choosing to align with the incumbent rather than promote its own candidate, potentially bolstering Tinubu’s coalition ahead of 2027. Political analysts say Soludo’s endorsement could influence voters in the South‑East and other parts of Nigeria, where APGA has a strong presence, and underscores the growing trend of strategic partnerships as parties prepare for next year’s highly competitive presidential contest.
