Suspected bandits have reportedly intercepted a passenger bus in Sokoto State and opened fire on its occupants, with preliminary reports claiming that all passengers were killed.
The incident was reported by Intel Region, although the precise number and identities of the victims could not be independently established from the available information.
The reported attack has renewed concerns over the safety of motorists travelling through parts of north-western Nigeria, where armed groups have carried out attacks, kidnappings and other violent crimes against road users and rural communities.
Sokoto State has experienced repeated security challenges, particularly in communities affected by banditry. Previous incidents have involved armed men blocking roads, abducting travellers and demanding ransom from victims’ families.
However, details surrounding this latest reported incident remain limited. No independently verified official statement confirming the casualty figure, the exact location of the ambush or the circumstances leading to the attack was available at the time of writing.
The identities of the victims and whether any occupants survived also remain unconfirmed.
Authorities are expected to investigate the reported incident and establish the facts surrounding the alleged killings.
Residents and travellers are urged to rely on verified updates from security agencies and credible news organisations rather than circulate unconfirmed casualty figures.
