Nigeria’s Senate has confirmed the appointment of Muttaqha Rabe Darma as a Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, following a formal request from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The confirmation came during Thursday’s plenary session, presided over by Senate President Godswill Akpabio. During the screening, Darma faced detailed questions from lawmakers, particularly on how he would address Nigeria’s housing challenges if assigned that portfolio.

Senators expressed satisfaction with his responses and subsequently approved his nomination.

In the same session, the upper chamber also confirmed Obehi Aire Okafor as Co-Chairman of the Governing Council of the Unclaimed Funds Trust Fund. The decision followed the presentation of a report by the Senate Committee on Finance, chaired by Musa Mohammed Sani.

Additionally, lawmakers passed the National Assembly Service Pension Board (Establishment Act) Amendment Bill, 2026. The legislation is aimed at reforming the contributory pension scheme and restructuring the board for improved efficiency.

The latest confirmations and legislative action underscore ongoing efforts by the National Assembly to strengthen governance and institutional frameworks in the country.
