Nigerian media personality Roby Ekpo has issued a public apology following widespread reactions to a viral video showing him breaking down in tears during an interview about his failed marriage.
On 27 April 2026, Ekpo addressed the controversy after clips from his appearance on The Honest Bunch Podcast circulated online, where he became visibly emotional while recounting the collapse of his marriage to Mayowa Lambe.
The emotional moment triggered mixed reactions across social media, with some critics questioning his vulnerability, while others expressed sympathy and support for his openness.
In response, Ekpo apologised to those who felt uncomfortable with his display of emotion, stating that “pain leaves the body in many ways,” including tears.
He also clarified that his reaction stemmed from deep emotional investment in the relationship, describing himself as someone who “loves deeply.”
The incident has since sparked broader conversations about emotional expression, particularly among men in public spaces, and the societal expectations surrounding vulnerability.
Beyond the controversy, Ekpo indicated he would refrain from further public discussion of his past marriage, signalling a shift toward personal healing and professional focus.
