The House of Representatives ad hoc committee investigating the alleged operations of the controversial Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC) has declared the appointment letter presented by its self-acclaimed Director-General, Adeniyi Adeyemi, as fake.
The committee said investigations also revealed that the Act purportedly establishing the council was forged, describing the development as a serious breach that raises concerns over the authenticity of the organisation’s operations.
Chairman of the committee, Rep. Yusuf Gagdi, disclosed this on Wednesday during the continuation of the investigative hearing in Abuja, following the second appearance of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Mrs. Didi Esther Walson-Jack.
According to Gagdi, the Head of Service confirmed before the panel that the appointment letter and other documents presented by Adeyemi were not genuine.
“It was established that the so-called letter of appointment was fake, confirmed by different agencies, and the Act presented to the Head of Service was equally fake, forged by the DG; it was established,” Gagdi said.
The hearing was attended by the Head of the Civil Service in compliance with the committee’s summons, while Deputy Commissioner of Police Olufemi Akinola and Assistant Commissioner of Police Bashir Abdullahi appeared on behalf of the Inspector-General of Police.
Despite earlier directives by the lawmakers, Adeyemi failed to appear before the committee as of the time the hearing ended.
The committee had earlier ordered the Inspector-General of Police to produce Adeyemi within 48 hours after describing the establishment and operation of the purported council as a grave violation of due process.
