President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has signed into law the Appropriation (Amendment) (No. 4) Bill, 2025, extending the implementation period of the 2025 budget from September 30, 2026, to December 31, 2026.
The President’s assent followed the passage of the amendment by both the Senate and the House of Representatives on Tuesday, September 29, 2026.
The extension provides Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) with additional time to complete ongoing capital projects and implement programmes covered by the 2025 Appropriation Act.
According to a statement issued by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the extension is intended to ensure that funds already appropriated are fully utilised for the benefit of Nigerians.
The development will also allow critical government programmes and projects to continue without disruption as the extended implementation period runs until December 31, 2026.
President Tinubu commended the leadership and members of the National Assembly for their prompt consideration and passage of the amendment.
The President said the action further demonstrated the cooperation between the Executive and Legislative arms of government in the service of the nation.
The amendment followed the need to extend the deadline for implementing the 2025 budget, which was originally scheduled to end on September 30, 2026.
With the presidential assent, MDAs can continue implementing the affected capital projects and programmes within the new deadline.
Onanuga disclosed the development in a statement issued on Wednesday, September 30, 2026, in his capacity as Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy.
