Presidency on Wednesday launched a fresh attack on the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, describing him as a “copy-and-paste politician” who lacks the credentials to compete with President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general election.
Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, made the remarks in a post on his verified X account, where he defended Tinubu’s leadership record and dismissed comparisons between the President and the former Anambra State governor.
According to Onanuga, Obi failed to demonstrate original thinking during his time in office and left little evidence of transformative governance after serving as governor of Anambra State for eight years.
He contrasted Obi’s tenure with that of Tinubu as governor of Lagos State, arguing that the President laid the foundation for key infrastructure projects and development plans that continue to shape Lagos years after he left office.
“Peter Obi has never shown original, authentic thinking. He is a copy-and-paste politician,” Onanuga stated.
The presidential spokesman also referenced comments allegedly made by Obi’s successor in Anambra State, Willie Obiano, claiming that Obi’s administration performed poorly in the area of security.
Onanuga maintained that Nigeria requires a leader with vision, innovation and proven capacity to deliver results, insisting that Tinubu possesses qualities that set him apart from his political rivals.
“Nigeria deserves a leader who can see beyond the ken of ordinary people, a leader who is a proven deep thinker and doer,” he said.
He further asserted that Obi was “no match” for Tinubu, stressing that both politicians do not belong in the same category when it comes to leadership experience and achievements.
