Police to Probe Death of Student Found Dead in Owo

A 20-year-old student of Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Audi Emmanuel, has been found dead in his off-campus apartment in Owo, Ondo State, in a case suspected to be suicide.

29 April 2026 — The incident occurred along Awolowo Road in Emure-Ile, where neighbours reportedly forced open the door after noticing a strong odour from the room. The student’s lifeless body was discovered inside the apartment, prompting immediate alert to authorities.

Police authorities in Ondo State confirmed the development, stating that preliminary observations suggest a suspected suicide, although a full investigation is ongoing to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the death.

The body has since been evacuated and deposited in a mortuary for autopsy.

No suicide note was found at the scene, and the motive behind the incident remains unclear. Reports indicate that the discovery has left residents and fellow students in shock, with some calling for a thorough probe into the circumstances.

Authorities have urged the public to seek support during emotional distress, emphasizing that help is available as investigations continue.
