The Nigeria Police Force has paraded a dismissed Assistant Superintendent of Police, ASP Nuhu Usman, alongside four other officers over their alleged involvement in the killing of a 28-year-old man, Mene Ogidi, in Delta State.
According to police authorities, the victim had reportedly gone to a motor park to collect a parcel sent to him when he was arrested after the package was found to contain a firearm.
Preliminary findings indicate that during interrogation, ASP Usman allegedly discharged his weapon, leading to the death of the suspect.
The police confirmed that the five officers have been dismissed from service and will be arraigned in court on charges related to the killing.
Force spokesperson, Anthony Placid, who presented the suspects during a parade, said the action reflects the Force’s commitment to accountability and discipline within its ranks.
Authorities disclosed that investigations are ongoing to unravel the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
Police also revealed that a key suspect believed to be the driver who transported the parcel from Yenagoa to Delta State is currently on the run.
Officials say the case is becoming more complex as investigators work to trace the origin of the firearm and identify all individuals connected to the parcel.
The police assured the public that all those found culpable will be brought to justice, while efforts are being intensified to apprehend the fleeing suspect.
The incident has sparked fresh concerns over the use of force during interrogations and the need for strict adherence to professional conduct by law enforcement officers.
