Police Arrest Suspected Bayelsa Gun Sender Linked To Killing Of Delta Youth

Police authorities have reportedly arrested two suspects, including the alleged sender of a firearm linked to the controversial killing of a Delta youth, Oghenemine Ogidi, popularly known as “Mene Ogidi,” in Effurun, Delta State.

The arrests followed ongoing investigations into the movement of a Beretta pistol and four rounds of ammunition allegedly transported from Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, to Effurun through a commercial transport company.

Ogidi, 28, was allegedly shot dead by ASP Nuhu Usman after police operatives intercepted the firearm package reportedly in his possession at a motor park in Effurun.

Witnesses and family members have maintained that the deceased was only conveying the parcel and had no knowledge of its contents.

Sources familiar with the investigation disclosed that the two suspects were transferred to the Effurun Area Command of the Delta State Police Command on Wednesday night as detectives intensified efforts to unravel the circumstances surrounding the firearm shipment and the fatal shooting.

According to reports, one of the suspects is believed to be the individual who arranged and sent the pistol from Yenagoa to Delta State, while investigators are still working to determine the role of the second suspect.

The killing of Ogidi sparked outrage across social media after a viral video showed the victim restrained on the ground while pleading for his life moments before he was allegedly shot at close range by the police officer.

The incident triggered widespread condemnation from civil society groups, lawyers, and human rights advocates demanding justice and accountability.

Following the public backlash, the Nigeria Police Force reportedly arrested ASP Nuhu Usman and transferred him alongside other officers connected to the incident to Force Headquarters in Abuja for disciplinary procedures and further investigation.

Although the Delta State Police Command has yet to officially comment on the latest arrests, sources said investigators are pursuing all individuals connected to the movement of the firearm and the circumstances that led to Ogidi’s death.
