The Niger State Police Command has arrested 27 suspected hoodlums in a major security operation aimed at ensuring a peaceful Eid-el-Kabir celebration across the state. The suspects were reportedly arrested during coordinated raids on identified criminal hideouts and blackspots within the Suleja metropolis.
According to police authorities, the operation targeted areas including Kantoma, Babangida Market, and Panteka, popularly known as “Jungle,” where suspected thugs and criminal gangs were believed to be disturbing public peace.
The raids were carried out between Sunday morning and midday as part of intensified security measures ahead of the Sallah festivities.
Police spokesperson Wasiu Abiodun confirmed that the suspects were from different states, including Katsina, Kano, Kaduna, Yobe, and Niger. Security operatives also recovered dangerous weapons and suspected illicit substances during the operation.
Items seized reportedly included cutlasses, swords, axes, clubs, knives, fake identity cards, ATM cards, and a bag containing suspected cannabis.
The arrests reflect growing security concerns across parts of northern Nigeria, where authorities continue to intensify operations against criminal gangs, thuggery, kidnappings, and violent activities ahead of major public celebrations.
