The Oyo State Police Command has arrested 10 suspected human parts merchants and recovered suspected human body parts and charms during separate operations in Iseyin and Saki areas of the state.
The command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Olayinka Ayanlade, disclosed this in a statement made available to journalists on Saturday in Ibadan.
Ayanlade said the arrests followed several months of intelligence gathering and discreet surveillance by operatives attached to the command’s monitoring unit.
According to him, the suspects were apprehended at separate hideouts in Iseyin and Saki after the police had tracked their activities.
He said searches conducted at the locations following the arrests led to the recovery of several suspected human parts and charms.
“Following their arrest, operatives conducted searches of the suspects’ hideouts, during which several suspected human parts were recovered,” Ayanlade said.
The police spokesperson listed the recovered exhibits as “one suspected human heart, human flesh, pieces of human skull and assorted charms.”
He said the exhibits had been secured for forensic examination and further investigation, while the suspects were assisting investigators in determining their alleged source, procurement and intended use.
Ayanlade added that the command was making efforts to identify and arrest other members allegedly connected to the suspected syndicate.
The Commissioner of Police in Oyo State, Abimbola Olugbenga, commended the operatives for what he described as a painstaking intelligence-led operation and their professionalism.
The commissioner, according to Ayanlade, assured residents that the command remained committed to tackling criminal activities and protecting human life across the state.
