A resident of Filin Ball community in Jos North Local Government Area, Plateau State, has recounted how a Christian man risked his life to save him during a deadly attack on Anguwan Rukuba last Sunday, 29 March.
Sa’idu Murtala, a garden egg seller, spoke to Daily Trust about the harrowing ordeal that claimed the lives of more than 20 people in the Palm Sunday attack.
“I was selling garden eggs, attending to my customers, when gunshots rang out,” Murtala said. “People were running in all directions, looking for somewhere to hide. I was terrified, convinced I would be killed.”
In the chaos, a Christian man opened his home and hid Murtala inside. “He took me to his wife’s room and even asked her to bring me food. He did everything to calm me. I spent the night there, and the next day he called my father, who came to bring me home once it was safe.”
Murtala explained that his rescuer knew he was Muslim, yet showed courage and compassion without hesitation. “He knows my faith, and even returned my phone, which I had left with someone for charging. I will never forget him.”
Reflecting on the experience, Murtala said it had taught him a valuable lesson about humanity. “What this man did for me is something I will carry for life. It proves there are good people everywhere, regardless of faith or background.”
