Peter Obi, presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), , was at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Onikan, Lagos, on Sunday for the Nigeria Premier Football League clash between Ikorodu City FC and Enugu Rangers International FC.
The former Anambra State governor watched the encounter from the stands alongside Ikorodu City President, Sanmi Doherty, as the Lagos-based club recorded a 2-0 win over the defending champions.
Sports photojournalist Pooja Media shared videos on X showing Obi watching the game from the stands and engaging with people around him.
In another video, fans were seen approaching the former governor during the half-time break to take photographs with him.
Photographs released by Obi’s photographer, Esther Umoh, also showed him posing with members of the Enugu Rangers team.
Ikorodu City also posted about the former governor’s presence on its X account, welcoming him to the Mobolaji Johnson Arena for the Matchday Six encounter.
The hosts took the lead after just eight minutes when Aderemi Adeoye scored, while Ikechukwu Junior added the second goal in the 63rd minute to give Ikorodu City a 2-0 victory.
The fixture was part of Matchday Six of the 2026/27 NPFL season.
Obi’s appearance at the stadium came as the Nigeria Democratic Congress continued its preparations for the 2027 general election.
Earlier in September, the party announced that Obi and his running mate, Rabiu Kwankwaso, had been authorised to nominate key officials of its Presidential Campaign Council.
