Former Anambra State governor and Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate, Peter Obi has instituted legal action against his former ally and kinsman, Kenneth Okonkwo, over allegations that he collected N10 million bribes from House of Representatives aspirants.
In a suit dated June 9, 2026, Obi’s legal team, led by Chief Alex Ejesieme (SAN), described the allegations as false, malicious and defamatory. The lawyers accused Okonkwo of making statements that portrayed Obi as a fraudster, extortionist and participant in criminal activities.
The dispute stems from claims allegedly made by Okonkwo during a broadcast, where he accused Obi and NDC leaders in the South-East of demanding N10 million from aspirants seeking House of Representatives tickets.
Rejecting the allegations, Obi’s lawyers insisted the claims were fabricated and intended to damage the former governor’s reputation.
They demanded an immediate withdrawal of the statements, a public apology across all social media platforms, a written undertaking against further defamatory remarks, and financial compensation.
