The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Gombe State has fixed Tuesday, September 29, 2026, for a fresh governorship primary election following a Federal High Court ruling that nullified the party’s earlier primary.
The party has also cleared former Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Professor Isa Ali Pantami, alongside Khamisu Ahmed Mailantarki and Usman Aliyu Garry, to contest in the new primary.
The State Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Abdulkadir Ahmed Dukku, disclosed that the exercise will be conducted at the party’s ward centres, where eligible members will vote to choose the party’s governorship candidate.
The development comes days after a Federal High Court sitting in Gombe set aside the previous governorship primary and ordered the party to conduct a fresh exercise within one month.
According to the party, it has accepted the court’s judgment in good faith and is currently studying its implications.
The PDP also called on its members and supporters to remain peaceful, united and committed to the party throughout the process.
The party further clarified that the court’s judgment did not disqualify Professor Pantami from participating in the fresh primary election and urged members to disregard rumours and avoid statements capable of causing tension.
The outcome of the September 29 primary is expected to determine the PDP’s flag bearer for the 2027 governorship election in Gombe State.
