The Peoples Democratic Party in Ondo State has called on Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa’s administration to make public the full details of recently approved projects, including their costs, funding arrangements, procurement procedures and implementation schedules.
The opposition party made the demand in response to the State Executive Council’s approval of a 2.38-kilometre flyover project in Akure, the Ondo State capital, alongside several other infrastructure initiatives across the state.
In a statement issued in Akure on Wednesday, the party’s Publicity Secretary, Jolade Aladetan, said the people of the state deserve greater transparency regarding projects that will be financed with public funds.
According to him, while the government’s supporters may applaud the latest approvals, many residents are more interested in understanding how the projects will be funded and delivered.
Aladetan noted that the approval of another flyover project shortly after the completion of the first one in Akure had raised questions about the administration’s spending priorities amid pressing socio-economic challenges facing the state.
“The people of Ondo State deserve more than impressive announcements. They have a right to know the actual cost of these projects, the source of funding, the procurement process involved and the timeline for completion,” he said.
The PDP argued that several communities across the state still face challenges such as poor road infrastructure, inadequate healthcare facilities, rising unemployment, insecurity and worsening living conditions.
The party maintained that the true measure of governance lies in completed projects and improved welfare for citizens rather than the frequency of project approvals announced after Executive Council meetings.
The opposition party also raised concerns over the proposed conversion of Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo, into a University of Agricultural Science and Technology.
According to Aladetan, the government should provide clear explanations on how the proposed university would be financed and sustained, especially when existing tertiary institutions continue to struggle with funding shortages, infrastructure deficits and welfare-related concerns.
“Educational advancement should be driven by a realistic implementation strategy and sustainable funding plan, not merely by policy announcements,” he said.
On the rehabilitation of the Owena Multipurpose Dam, the PDP acknowledged the importance of the project but stressed that residents would judge the initiative by its impact on water supply rather than government promises.
The party urged the state government to publish detailed implementation frameworks for all approved projects and ensure prudent management of public resources.
“Development should be assessed by visible improvements in the lives of the people, not by declarations made in council chambers. At a time when many communities still lack essential amenities, accountability and transparency must remain at the heart of governance,” the statement added.
The PDP reaffirmed its commitment to providing constructive opposition, pledging to continue monitoring government policies and demanding accountability on behalf of the people of Ondo State.
