Oyo State Police Command successfully rescued four travellers abducted by armed suspected bandits along the Igbeti–Kishi Road in Irepo Local Government Area, Oyo State, in the early hours of 5 March 2026. The victims, who were passengers on a commercial bus heading from Igbeti towards Kishi, were intercepted when the assailants suddenly emerged from nearby bushes, forced the vehicle to halt and dragged them into the forest.
Upon receiving the distress report, Commissioner of Police Femi Haruna ordered an immediate, coordinated security response involving police tactical units, the Western Nigeria Security Network (Amotekun Corps), Operation Burst, and other local security stakeholders. The joint team conducted intensive bush‑combing operations, which put sustained pressure on the kidnappers, forcing them to abandon the captives and flee.
All four travellers were freed unhurt and have since been reunited with their families. The command praised the professionalism and swift action of the joint forces, emphasising that collaboration remains critical in combating banditry. Police also urged the public to remain vigilant and share credible information to aid ongoing efforts to apprehend those responsible.
