The Oyo State Police Command has alleged that a personal assistant attached to a member of the family of former Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, played a role in the kidnapping of his sister and her two children in Ibadan.
The command’s spokesperson, CSP Olayinka Ayanlade, disclosed the development during an interview on Channels Television, revealing that investigations into the June 3, 2026 abduction pointed to the involvement of an insider.
According to Ayanlade, the suspect allegedly provided critical information that enabled the kidnappers to plan and execute the operation, suggesting that the crime was facilitated by someone familiar with the family’s routines and movements.
The victims, Mrs Olaide Busayo Adegoke John-Paul and her 12-year-old twin sons, Peter and Paul, were abducted in the Elewura area of Ring Road, Ibadan, while she was on her way to drop the boys at school.
The incident sparked widespread concern among residents and prompted an intensive security operation by law enforcement agencies. Investigators deployed intelligence-gathering, surveillance and tactical teams in a coordinated effort to track down the abductors and secure the victims’ release.
Police said the operation eventually led officers to the kidnappers’ hideout, where a fierce exchange of gunfire ensued. Two suspects were killed during the confrontation, while several others were arrested and are currently assisting investigators.
In a significant breakthrough, the victims were rescued unharmed and have since been reunited with their family, bringing relief to loved ones who endured days of uncertainty and anxiety.
Ayanlade described the successful rescue as a major victory in the state’s fight against kidnapping and organised crime. He added that investigations remain ongoing to identify and apprehend all individuals connected to the abduction.
The police spokesperson also urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities, stressing that community cooperation remains crucial in tackling criminal networks across the state.
