Fresh details have emerged on the reported demands of kidnappers holding pupils and teachers abducted from schools in Oyo State, as concerns continue to mount over the fate of the victims.
According to information circulating on social media and among stakeholders monitoring the situation, the abductors are reportedly demanding N1 billion ransom to be paid into an account in the Benin Republic.
The kidnappers were also said to have demanded the release of alleged terrorists currently being held at Agodi and Abolongo correctional facilities.
Other reported demands include the provision of two Hilux vehicles and an amendment of Oyo State laws to enforce and introduce Sharia law.
The development has generated widespread reactions, particularly the reported demand relating to the introduction of Sharia law, with many Nigerians expressing concern over the possible motives behind the abduction.
As of the time of filing this report, security agencies and the Oyo State Government had yet to officially confirm the authenticity of the reported demands.
The reported demands are coming amid ongoing efforts by security agencies, local hunters, and community leaders to secure the release of the abducted pupils and teachers.
The abduction, which occurred in Oyo North Senatorial District, has attracted national attention and renewed calls for stronger security measures to tackle kidnapping and banditry across the country.
Meanwhile, families of the victims and concerned residents have continued to appeal to the government and security agencies to intensify rescue efforts and ensure the safe return of all those still being held captive.
