The headmaster of Nomadic Basic School, Igbojaye, in Itesiwaju Local Government Area of Oyo State, Mr. Mathew Kolawole Owoade, has regained his freedom less than 48 hours after he was abducted by suspected gunmen.
Owoade, a 60-year-old farmer and educator, was kidnapped on Saturday, July 12, 2026, along the Igbojaye–Budo Aare bush road while returning from his farm. His release was confirmed on Monday, July 13, following a coordinated security operation led by the Oyo State Police Command.
In a statement, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, said the command immediately deployed joint security teams and intensified investigations after receiving the report of the abduction.
According to him, sustained operational pressure forced the kidnappers to abandon the victim, who was safely recovered on Monday evening.
The police disclosed that Owoade was taken to a medical facility for evaluation and treatment before being debriefed to assist ongoing investigations aimed at identifying and prosecuting those behind the crime.
Oyo State Commissioner of Police, CP Abimbola Olugbenga, commended security agencies, community members and local vigilantes for their collaboration during the rescue operation.
He reaffirmed the command’s commitment to combating kidnapping and other violent crimes across the state while urging residents to continue providing timely and credible intelligence to security agencies.
