By Sunday Ameh

The 2027 presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, has congratulated Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, on his re-election.

Obi, in a statement issued on Sunday, August 16, 2026, said the outcome of the governorship election reflected the decision of the people of Osun State.

The former Anambra State governor described the election as an expression of the voters’ democratic choice, congratulating Adeleke on securing another term in office.

Obi also called on the governor to see his re-election as a fresh mandate to serve the people of the state and work for the development of Osun.

His congratulatory message comes as political parties and prominent Nigerians continue to react to the outcome of the keenly contested governorship election.

Adeleke emerged victorious in the election after defeating his closest challenger, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Bola Oyebamiji.

The election had been preceded by intense political activities across the state, while voting was accompanied by reports of alleged vote-buying, intimidation and other incidents in some areas.

With the declaration of the result, attention is now expected to shift towards the next phase of governance and the challenges confronting the Adeleke administration.
