Osun PDP Leadership Crisis Deepens as State Exco Rejects Dissolution

By Charles Maduka

The State Working Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party in Osun State has rejected the dissolution of its leadership announced by the party’s National Working Committee, insisting that the party’s structure in the state remains lawful and fully operational.

In a statement signed by the state chairman, Sunday Bisi, the committee said the party’s leadership in Osun was constituted through due process and cannot be invalidated by what it described as external pressure or unlawful actions. It urged party members to remain calm, vigilant and focused, while disregarding directives from what it called unauthorised sources.

The statement further reaffirmed the party’s support for the administration of Governor Ademola Adeleke and stressed that preparations were ongoing for future electoral contests considered critical to the welfare of the people of the state.

However, a group known as Professionals in Osun PDP has backed the decision of the National Working Committee to set up a caretaker committee for the party in the state. In a statement signed by its chairman, Sam Segun-Progress, the group said the move was necessary in view of the actions and inactions of the dissolved state working committee.

The group expressed confidence that the caretaker committee would rebuild and reorganise the party, resolve internal grievances and reposition the PDP for upcoming political engagements. It also called on the caretaker leadership to unite members who felt abandoned and ensure a sense of belonging within the party.
