Public affairs commentator, Isaac Fayose, has described Saturday’s Osun State governorship election as a potential turning point for Nigeria’s democracy, saying the outcome could trigger what he called an “electoral revolution” across the country.
Fayose made the declaration in a video shared on his Facebook page on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, ahead of the August 15 governorship election.
According to a report, the commentator urged Osun voters to recognise the significance of the forthcoming poll.
Fayose argued that developments in Osun could have implications beyond the state, particularly as political parties and their supporters begin positioning themselves ahead of the 2027 general elections.
He said the election could mark the beginning of a broader shift in the way Nigerians approach elections and exercise their democratic rights.
His remarks come amid heightened political activities and tensions in Osun, with the major parties intensifying campaigns ahead of Saturday the’s poll.
The election has also been accompanied by allegations of vote-buying, political violence and intimidation, with rival political camps trading accusations.
Fayose’s call has therefore added another layer to the growing political conversation surrounding the election, which is being closely watched as a possible indicator of the political mood ahead of 2027.
