Former Osun State Governor and Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Gboyega Oyetola, has declared that Governor Ademola Adeleke and his supporters will “cry” after Saturday’s governorship election.
Oyetola, who contested against Adeleke in the 2022 governorship election, made the statement on Thursday during the All Progressives Congress mega rally in Osogbo, the state capital.
The former governor urged residents to vote for the APC candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, in Saturday’s election.
Oyetola expressed confidence in the APC’s chances, describing the large turnout at the party’s rally as evidence of its popularity across the state.
He also criticised the decision of the Adeleke-led camp to cancel its final campaign rally, urging APC supporters to use the opportunity to mobilise voters for the party.
“I think today is a day of joy and we are grateful that today met us alive and well. You all have seen how our party is. The APC has followers,” Oyetola said.
He urged eligible voters to ensure they participated in the election and correctly identified the APC symbol on the ballot.
“On Saturday, who will you vote for? Look at who they field and who we field. If you close your eyes who will you vote for?” he asked the crowd.
Oyetola also urged young people who had recently attained voting age to obtain and use their Permanent Voter Cards.
“Voting on Saturday is a must for all of us. And for those people that have come of voting age, please ensure that you take your card to the polling unit and ensure you look for the insignia of a broom,” he said.
He then predicted victory for the APC, telling supporters that they would celebrate while Adeleke and his supporters would be disappointed by the outcome.
“Thumpprint where you find a broom and by God’s grace we will all laugh this coming Saturday. We will laugh while they will cry when we finish voting on Saturday,” Oyetola said.
Oyetola lost his bid for a second term as governor to Adeleke in the closely contested 2022 Osun governorship election.
The Saturday election is therefore set to renew the political battle between the two camps, with Adeleke seeking another term under the Accord Party and Oyebamiji representing the APC.
