ABUJA — September 30, 2026: Senator Adams Oshiomhole has clarified the political relationship between Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike and the All Progressives Congress (APC), saying Wike’s support is for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election rather than the APC as a political party.
Oshiomhole, who represents Edo North Senatorial District, made the clarification during an interview on TVC as political disagreements between Wike and some APC governors continue ahead of the 2027 elections.
According to the senator, Wike has consistently maintained that although he is not an APC member, he supports Tinubu’s bid to remain president.
“Wike is supporting President Tinubu and not the APC,” Oshiomhole said, adding that both Wike and the APC governors are committed to supporting the President’s re-election.
The former Edo State governor said he was comfortable with the differences between the two sides because, in his view, they remain united around the objective of supporting Tinubu.
The disagreement intensified after Wike criticised some APC governors as “politically lazy” over their opposition to his Rainbow Coalition and its political activities ahead of 2027.
Wike has separately stated that his support for Tinubu does not mean abandoning the PDP or preventing the party from fielding candidates for governorship and legislative elections. He has also maintained that the Rainbow Coalition is separate from the APC and is focused on mobilising support for Tinubu’s presidential bid.
The competing positions have added another layer to the evolving political alignments ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 elections.
