The Joint Action Committee of Ondo State tertiary institutions (JAC-ODSTI) has rejected the state government’s 60 per cent increase in subventions to tertiary institutions, insisting that the adjustment is not enough to resolve the issues behind the ongoing strike.
In a statement signed by its Chairman, Comrade Tayo Ogungbeni, the union said its major demand was the full and unconditional implementation of the 2026 Federal Government/Unions Agreement, covering both financial and non-financial provisions.
Ogungbeni questioned whether the increased subvention would be sufficient to cover the payment of CONTTA and its associated allowances.
“Can this 60 per cent increment cater for the payment of our CONTTA and its associated allowances? The answer is an emphatic no,” he said.
He said the government must implement the financial provisions of the agreement and pay the outstanding benefits from January 2026 before the strike could be suspended.
Ogungbeni also alleged that the government was considering measures, including attempts to divide the unions or sanction their leaders, to end the industrial action.
He warned that such actions could further worsen the situation and urged members of the unions to remain united.
According to him, the strike would continue until members receive payment of the financial provisions of the agreement.
