The Ondo State Police Command has arrested three suspected drug dealers and recovered substances suspected to be cannabis, Tramadol, Codeine syrup and Tutolin syrup in Akure, the state capital.

The suspects, identified as Fisayo Adedamola, a female, and two males, Adeola Oluwaseun and Adeogun Olumide.

They were arrested by operatives of the Command’s Anti-Cultism Squad.

The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, disclosed the development in a statement issued on Thursday, saying the arrest was made during an intensified patrol aimed at curbing illicit drug trafficking and other criminal activities across the state.

According to the statement, the operatives were conducting a strategic confidence-building patrol within the Akure metropolis when they intercepted the suspects, who were allegedly involved in the distribution and sale of illicit drugs.

A search conducted on the suspects reportedly led to the recovery of substances suspected to be cannabis, Tramadol capsules, Codeine syrup and Tutolin syrup.

The police said the suspects were subsequently taken into custody, while the recovered items were secured as exhibits.

The Command said preliminary investigations were ongoing to establish the source of the substances, identify other persons who may be connected to the suspects and determine whether they belong to a wider criminal network.

The suspects are expected to be prosecuted upon completion of the investigation.

The Commissioner of Police in Ondo State, CP Felix Ohagwu, reaffirmed the Command’s determination to combat illicit drug trafficking, warning that drug abuse and the illegal drug trade often fuel violent crimes such as cultism and armed robbery.

Ohagwu said the police would sustain operations against individuals and criminal groups involved in the distribution and sale of illicit substances across the state.

He also urged parents, guardians, community leaders and residents to provide the police with credible and timely information that could assist in the identification and arrest of drug dealers and other criminal elements.

The commissioner assured residents that the Command would continue to deploy proactive policing, intelligence-led operations and community collaboration to strengthen security across Ondo State.
