…..Recruitment of 100 Additional Doctors Approved as Part of Ongoing Reform

The Ondo State Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa has intensified efforts to strengthen healthcare delivery with the recruitment of more than 30 medical doctors within the month of May, despite the growing wave of migration among health professionals popularly known as the “Japa syndrome.”
The development was disclosed in a statement issued on Saturday by the Acting Chairman of the Ondo State Hospitals’ Management Board (HMB), Dr. Akeredolu Oluwafemi, popularly known as Akeredolu O.N.
Akeredolu described the exercise as part of Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa’s ongoing reforms aimed at revitalising the state’s healthcare sector.
According to him, the newly recruited personnel include two consultants, 12 house officers and 11 general practitioners, while the absorption process for an additional 14 medical doctors is expected to begin next week.
The government also approved the recruitment of 100 more medical doctors under the ongoing employment exercise coordinated by the Hospitals’ Management Board.
The HMB noted that the initiative was designed to address manpower shortages in public hospitals and improve access to quality healthcare services across urban and rural communities in the state.
Stakeholders in the health sector have described the move as a major intervention capable of reducing pressure on existing medical personnel while improving efficiency, patient care and service delivery in government-owned health facilities.
The recruitment drive is also expected to help curb brain drain within the state health sector by creating opportunities for young medical professionals and boosting confidence in the healthcare system.
The statement further attributed the progress being recorded in the sector to the commitment and collaboration of key stakeholders in the healthcare industry.
Special commendation was given to Dr. Taiwo Fasoranti for his contributions toward healthcare development in the state, while Dr. Victor Ategbole was also praised for his support and commitment to advancing the sector.
Similarly, the Chief Medical Director of the University of Medical Sciences Teaching Hospital Complex, Michael Gbala, was applauded for his leadership and dedication to improved healthcare services.
Members and management of the Hospitals’ Management Board were equally recognised for their professionalism and support toward achieving the governor’s healthcare vision.
The latest recruitment exercise, according to the statement, underscores Governor Aiyedatiwa’s commitment to prioritising the welfare of residents through strategic investment in healthcare infrastructure and human capital development.
Residents of Ondo State have expressed optimism that the ongoing reforms will usher in a new era of efficient, accessible and people-oriented healthcare delivery across the state.
