*Praises Union Leaders over commitment to dialogue
AKURE, ONDO STATE — Hon. Bidemi Joshua Obayangban, Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Forestry, has lauded Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa for his decisive leadership in resolving the protracted wage dispute with tertiary institution unions in the state.
Starnews NG reports that this agreement follows a period of tension between the Ondo State Government and staff unions, including ASUU, SSANU, NAAT, and NASU over the implementation of the Federal Government-approved wage structure.
The dispute resulted to potential industrial action, which disrupted academic calendars across the state’s higher institutions for some weeks.
In a statement on Tuesday, Hon. Obayangban described the Governor’s approval of the full implementation of the FGN-ASUU wage structure as a testament to his administration’s unwavering commitment to the welfare of workers and the advancement of the education sector.
“I wish to express my profound appreciation to my boss, his excellency, Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa for his listening ear and his proactive approach to governance. By prioritizing the needs of our academic and non-academic staff, the Governor has once again demonstrated that he is a true friend of the workers. This decision will undoubtedly foster a more stable and productive academic environment for our students”, he said.
Hon. Obayangban also extended his gratitude to the leadership of the various unions for their maturity and commitment to dialogue throughout the negotiation process.
“I must also commend the union leaders for their patriotism and dedication to the progress of our state’s institutions,” he added. “Their willingness to engage constructively has paved the way for this amicable resolution, ensuring that our universities remain centres of excellence. I urge them all to continue this spirit of cooperation as we work together to build a greater Ondo State”, he stated.
