Social media users in Ondo State have expressed divided opinions over who should succeed Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa in 2028.
The reactions followed a Starnews NG report published on October 24, titled “Residents Name Jimoh Ibrahim as Next Ondo Governor.” The report was based on an opinion article published by the platform on October 12.
Since then, supporters of various politicians have taken to comment section to campaign for their preferred candidates.
While some users described Senator (Amb.) Jimoh Ibrahim as the next governor, others backed former governorship candidate Olusola Oke and former candidate Eyitayo Jegede.
The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, popularly known as BTO, also received support, with some contributors insisting that he would emerge as the next governor.
Other residents called for an “Akure agenda”, mentioning Ifedayo Abegunde among those who could contest the election. Some residents, however, argued that power should remain in Ondo South, insisting that the zone should complete eight years in office if Aiyedatiwa is unable to serve two full terms for legal reasons.
Some of the comments on the Facebook post read:
“Ondo State is waiting for you, super leader, patriotic, loyal and trusted Aseyori founder,” Pius Akinruntan wrote. “Jegede is the next Governor,” Isa Yusuf stated. “BTO everywhere you go!” James Friday commented.
Aregbesola Nifemi wrote: “Only if he doesn’t. When he says he’s ready, he takes the dancing floor and changes the narratives. Àràbà had paid his dues!”
Akinmade Adenugba wrote: “Oke Olusola is the next governor of Ondo State, by God’s grace.” Other comments included “Jimoh Ibrahim for sure.”
Some said “we want B.T.O because he is better than others” and some residents argued that “Only Eyitayo Jegede Olayinka SAN, now.”
Kingsley Anthony wrote: “ABENA is coming, central lokan, Akure agenda,” while Moses James commented: “Gbas gbos no dey finish for Ondo State. I thought una said BTO mbo.”
The comments reflect the growing division among residents over the possible successor to Aiyedatiwa, although none of the politicians mentioned has openly shown interest for the 2028 election.
