NYSC Disowns Fake Redeployment Notice, Warns Corps Members Against Fraudsters

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has disowned a viral notice claiming that a special redeployment window has been opened for corps members, warning members of the public against falling victim to fraudsters exploiting the scheme’s processes.

The scheme issued the disclaimer on Friday through its verified X handle, where it stamped the circulating notice with a bold “FAKE NEWS” watermark and cautioned corps members to disregard its contents.

The fraudulent notice, titled “URGENT NOTICE: NYSC REDEPLOYMENT,” was addressed to parents and guardians and claimed that a special redeployment exercise had been introduced because of “issues of National Security, Health, and State of the Nation.”

It urged corps members with what it described as genuine grounds for redeployment to submit applications promptly for their safety, proper placement and timely completion of service.

The notice also directed applicants to contact two telephone numbers for assistance, claiming valid documents would be required and that all applications would follow NYSC guidelines.

Reacting, the NYSC National Directorate Headquarters described the notice as fake and advised corps members and the general public to rely only on official communication channels for information relating to deployment and redeployment.

The scheme did not identify those responsible for circulating the false notice.

The development comes amid repeated attempts by fraudsters to exploit the NYSC redeployment process to extort money from unsuspecting corps members and their families.

The NYSC, led by Director-General Olakunle Nafiu, reiterated that deployment and redeployment matters are processed exclusively through its official portal and designated offices, stressing that it does not authorise agents or individuals to handle such requests through telephone contacts.

It urged corps members and members of the public to verify every purported NYSC directive through the scheme’s official website and verified social media platforms before acting on it or making any payment.
