According to the Nigerian Army, it will continue cooperating with Pakistan to address new security challenges.
This was said when Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu received the Defence Adviser of Pakistan to Nigeria, Colonel Kamran Mushtaq, at the Army Headquarters in Abuja.
As an acting Director, Army Public Relations, Colonel Appolonia Anele added that the Army Chief emphasized the significance of the long-term partnership of the two nations.
According to him, the partners need to dedicate more efforts on collective training, information sharing, defence technologies and collaborating in operations.
According to Lieutenant General Shaibu, further collaboration in such locations will assist the armies to work more closely and empower the two armies to combat terrorism, insurgency and other emerging threats.
According to the Army Chief, professional military education is also important. He stated that officers of Nigerian have undergone advanced training in Pakistan and Pakistani officers will very soon attend the National Defence College in Nigeria.
He indicated that improved cooperation in intelligence and purchase of defence equipment will enhance the preparedness of Nigeria to fight as well as effectiveness in general.
Colonel Kamran Mushtaq indicated that the highest military officer in Pakistan wishes him well and commended the professionalism and strength of the Nigerian Army.
He cited the case of Pakistan that has been fighting terrorism and said that Pakistan is preparing to enhance cooperation by providing specialized training, technical assistance and providing advanced surveillance and communication equipment.
The two nations once again stated that they will continue to share military programmes to enhance the effectiveness of their collaboration and in dealing with regional and global security threats
