American rapper Nicki Minaj has opened up about what she described as the spiritual and professional challenges she has faced in the music industry, alleging that influential figures work behind the scenes to sideline talented artists who refuse to conform to their expectations.
Speaking during an appearance on The Bryce Crawford Podcast, Minaj claimed that some of the industry’s most powerful individuals treat musicians as “properties” whose primary purpose is to generate profits, while suppressing those who choose not to work under their influence.
According to the award-winning rapper, many of the obstacles she and other gifted performers have encountered are orchestrated by these unnamed figures, making successful artists “almost invisible” if they fail to follow the established system.
Minaj said she has endured what she described as “constant spiritual warfare” throughout her career because she refused to play by the rules of those in positions of power.
Reflecting on her journey, the rapper said she wished she had understood earlier how deeply spiritual she believes the entertainment industry is, adding that she was unprepared for the battles she would face.
“It was constant spiritual warfare. I wish I kind of knew sooner that this music industry was such a spiritual experience because I felt like I brought a knife to a gunfight,” Minaj said.
Although she did not identify any individuals or organisations, Minaj maintained that artists who challenge the industry’s power structure often face coordinated efforts aimed at limiting their visibility and career growth.
Her remarks have sparked renewed conversations among fans and industry observers about the pressures, power dynamics and personal struggles artists face behind the scenes in the global music business.
