The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has denied reports that it is backing calls for FIFA President Gianni Infantino to resign.
The federation described the reports, particularly those circulating on social media, as false and urged the public to disregard them.
The NFF made the clarification in a statement posted on its official X account on Saturday.
“Contrary to reports, especially on social media, @thenff has never asked and is not asking for @FIFAcom President, Mr. Gianni Infantino to step down as FIFA PRESIDENT,” the federation stated.
“This is outright falsehood. Kindly disregard,” it added.
The clarification comes amid growing criticism of Infantino by some European football associations over the controversial FIFA Forward enterprise proposal, which sought to attract external investment into FIFA competitions.
Although the proposal was later withdrawn, football associations in England, Wales and Norway have reportedly called for Infantino to leave office.
The development led to reports suggesting that the NFF had joined the campaign against the FIFA president. The Nigerian federation, however, firmly rejected the claim.
The NFF has previously expressed support for Infantino’s leadership. In February, NFF President Ibrahim Gusau praised what he described as the FIFA president’s “decade of transformative leadership.”
The federation has also submitted a letter backing Infantino’s bid for re-election as FIFA president in 2027.
The latest clarification reaffirms the NFF’s position that it remains supportive of Infantino and has no involvement in any campaign seeking his removal.
