The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has intensified its nationwide offensive against drug cartels, arresting a Nigerian medical doctor linked to an international cocaine trafficking network. The arrest underscores growing concerns about the involvement of professionals in illicit drug operations, as authorities widen investigations into organized syndicates operating across multiple states and international routes.
On April 12, 2026, the NDLEA confirmed that the doctor was apprehended following the arrest of an Ivorian suspect caught with 82 wraps of cocaine weighing about 1.49kg at the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport. Subsequent intelligence-led operations led to the doctor’s arrest in Ogun State, exposing a broader trafficking network.
The agency also disclosed multiple raids nationwide, including the arrest of a 93-year-old suspect in Abia State, highlighting the widespread nature of the drug trade.
Authorities say the arrests reflect a deeper infiltration of drug trafficking into Nigerian society, cutting across age, profession, and borders.
The NDLEA has vowed to sustain its crackdown, warning that no individual (regardless of status) will be spared in the fight against narcotics.
