A helpless toddler has been left at the centre of public outrage after a disturbing video emerged showing a man repeatedly beating the child with what appears to be a charger cable.
The heartbreaking footage, which surfaced on social media on Wednesday, shows the shirtless man striking the crying toddler several times on the head and body.
As the assault continues, the frightened child is seen lying on a tiled floor, desperately using her hands to shield her head from the blows.
The man continues the beating while speaking aggressively to the child, leaving the toddler crying and seemingly unable to protect herself.
The video has sparked anger and concern among Nigerians, with many demanding that the man be identified and brought to justice.
Responding to the disturbing footage, the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) said it had commenced efforts to identify and locate the alleged abuser.
NAPTIP said it was working with relevant security agencies to track down the man and ensure that he faces the full weight of the law if found responsible.
The agency stressed that child abuse would not be tolerated and urged members of the public who may have information about the man’s identity or whereabouts to come forward.
Information can be sent to NAPTIP through its social media direct messages, info@naptip.gov.ng, or the agency’s shortcode 627.
The agency also reaffirmed its commitment to protecting vulnerable children and ensuring that those responsible for abusing them are held accountable.
For the little child seen crying helplessly in the video, the incident has once again raised concerns about the safety and protection of children who may be unable to defend themselves.
