The Chairman of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria, Professor Abdullahi Usman, has resigned from his position.
His resignation was confirmed on Tuesday, though the official reason has not yet been made public.
There are claims that the decision followed a petition by members of the NAHCON board to President Bola Tinubu, calling for his removal over alleged misconduct.
Speaking with journalists, the Technical Assistant on Media to the former chairman, Ahmad Mu’azu, confirmed the resignation but said details were still unclear.
According to him, Usman sent a brief message on Monday night informing staff of his resignation, adding that a formal explanation was expected later.
Reports indicate that the NAHCON board had earlier submitted a petition dated January 19, 2026, signed by 11 board members, expressing a vote of no confidence in Usman.
The petition reportedly accused him of financial indiscipline, lack of transparency, and approving spending and contracts without board consent, allegedly beyond approved budget limits.
Before stepping down, Usman carried out official duties when he hosted Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Hajj and Umrah, Dr Tawfiq Al Rabiah, in Abuja last week.
Usman was appointed chairman of NAHCON by President Tinubu in 2024.
