The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has alerted Nigerians to the circulation of a suspected counterfeit toothpaste being distributed under the name ORACIRE+ Toothpaste, allegedly designed to resemble the registered ORACARE+ Toothpaste.
The agency issued the alert on Monday, September 14, 2026, following a formal complaint and market intelligence report concerning the widespread distribution of the suspected counterfeit product.
According to NAFDAC, its surveillance team discovered the product at Ojuwoye Market in Mushin, Lagos, where it was found to closely resemble the registered ORACARE+ Toothpaste in packaging and overall appearance.
The agency warned that the similarity could make it difficult for consumers to distinguish the suspected counterfeit from the registered product.
NAFDAC said the suspected fake toothpaste may not meet established quality and safety standards and could therefore pose health risks to consumers.
The agency said it had commenced surveillance activities, while all zonal directors and state coordinators had been directed to investigate the availability and distribution of the suspected counterfeit product in their respective areas.
They were also instructed to take appropriate regulatory action where necessary.
NAFDAC urged consumers, distributors, retailers and healthcare providers to exercise caution when purchasing ORACARE+ Toothpaste and to pay close attention to the product’s packaging and source.
“Purchase toothpaste products only from reputable and authorised outlets. Carefully examine product packaging and source of supply before purchase,” the agency advised.
Consumers and healthcare providers who suspect that the counterfeit product is being sold have been urged to report it to the nearest NAFDAC office.
