Former United States President Joe Biden’s cancer has spread to his bones, his son, Hunter Biden, has disclosed.
Hunter made the revelation during an interview with the BBC on Friday, saying his father was experiencing significant pain as the disease continued to affect his health.
“It’s really hard. It’s really sad to watch,” Hunter said while discussing his father’s condition.
He explained that the cancer had metastasised to Joe Biden’s bones and described the illness as “very painful” and “very debilitating in many respects”.
Despite the severity of the condition, Hunter said his father remained active and continued with his activities.
The disclosure comes several weeks after former First Lady Jill Biden spoke about her husband’s health, saying he would likely live with cancer for the rest of his life.
Joe Biden’s office announced in May 2025 that he had been diagnosed with an aggressive form of prostate cancer that had already spread to his bones.
The former president subsequently underwent radiation therapy and hormone treatment. The Biden family announced in September 2025 that he had completed a course of the treatments, although it remained unclear whether additional cancer care would be required.
Hunter, who became emotional during the interview, described his father as a strong source of support for the family.
“He is our rock,” he said, while reflecting on the role Joe Biden had played in the lives of his children.
The former president had also undergone treatment for cancerous skin cells, with his office previously announcing that he had surgery to remove them.
Hunter also discussed the controversial pardon granted to him by his father shortly before Joe Biden left office.
The pardon covered federal offences Hunter may have committed between January 1, 2014, and December 1, 2024. At the time, he was facing federal gun charges and had pleaded guilty to tax-related offences.
Hunter acknowledged that the pardon had attracted criticism but said he remained grateful to his father for the decision.
He had previously said on California Governor Gavin Newsom’s podcast that Joe Biden’s decision to pardon him showed that the former president had chosen his son over concerns about his political legacy.
